What are the Requirements for Navy HPSP?

The Navy HPSP has some basic requirements that each applicant must meet before being considered for the scholarship; these requirements include the following:

• Applicants must be US citizens and residents; you must be below 42 years before the commissioning. However, in cases where the applicant has an extraordinary result or shows excellent skills needed in the Navy, the age restriction may be waived.

• Candidates must be enrolled or accepted in any accredited institution in the US or Puerto Rico, and the course of study must be health-related.

• Applicants must be full-time students.

• You must submit all official transcripts to the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED).

• There is a minimum MCAT score of 500, with about 124 in each subsection.

• Candidates aspiring to become the Navy Medical Corps (MC) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. They must also pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX).

• To become part of the Navy Dental Corps (DC), you must pass both parts of the National Board Dental Exam (NBDE).

• All applicants aspiring to become physician assistants under the Navy HPSP must be students in any school approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant and pass the Physician Assistant National Certification Exam (PANCE).

• The Optometry unit requires acceptance or enrollment in any school certified by the American Optometric Association’s Council on Optometric Education and a license from the National Board of Examiners in Optometry before going for active service.

• To study as a nurse under the Navy HPSP, you must enroll in any nursing school approved by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Navy HPSP Physical Requirements

• The requirements include running, sit-ups, and push-ups; each candidate must have at least 60 points.
• Height and body fat or weight are also considered. All male applicants must have at least 22% body fat, while their female counterparts must have 33% or less. The program requires between 58 to 78 inches for all male and female applicants.

The HPSP has an age limit for all applicants. You must be up to 18 to be eligible for the Navy HPSP; with your parent’s consent, you can enroll at 17.

The age limit is 18 to 42 years; you must not exceed 42 before the commissioning. However, in some cases, the program can waive the restriction, especially if the candidate has an extraordinary result and shows excellent skills.
