How does Transfer to Medical School Work?

Transferable credits are credits that a college or university allows a student to transfer from one medical school or similar programs from any college or university to another, medical school.

When a student transfers from one school to another, the credit from the student’s previous courses and degrees are expected to be transferred to the new school.

Note: Whether or not the new school will accept the transfer credit, the acceptance cannot be determined or influence by your previous institution.

In most cases, not all the credits from the previous school is always accepted by the new school.

It is also common that some medical schools do not accept transferred credits especially if it was obtain from unrelated classes from other countries.

Also, it is not all medical schools that accept transfer student, especially international transfer students who did their program in schools with different curriculum.

For that reason, I have spent time to make detailed findings to assist students that are willing to transfer from their current school to another medical school.

Note: transferring from one medical school to another within the same country is far easier than transferring from one medical school to another in a different country.

Many medical schools permit the transfer of students and many others also accept transferred students which is mostly base on some academic criteria and requirements.

As such, it is advisable to personally check the transfer requirements of the medical school you’re transferring to before you start processing your transfer.

Do Med Schools Accept Transfer Credit?

Most medical schools accept transfer credit and therefore accept transfer students but it must always be a community college (CC) credits with at least a bachelor’s degree to back up.

Requirements for Transferring to a Medical School

The following are the most important and most common requirements for transferring from one school to a medical school:

• USMLE Step 1 Examination Score (optional for some schools/countries)
• Transcripts from all previous schools attended
• Submitted application for Transfer
• Complete payment of the transfer application fee
• Letter of recommendation from the Dean of Student Affairs at the former medical school.
• Evaluation letter from former school, indicating the student is in good standing
• MCAT Examination scores (optional for some schools/countries)
