THE West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination known as WAEC is a secondary school (high school) qualification examination mostly used to gain admission into colleges and universities for bachelor’s degree programs.

Is WASSCE equivalent to GCSE?

In the United Kingdom, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is equivalent to the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) in the U.K.

The GCSE is a qualification normally taken by most, although not all, UK students at the end of compulsory education just like the WAEC. The GCSE equivalent in Scotland is Standard Grade.

Is WAEC Accepted in UK?

Yes!

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) also known as WAEC is acceptable in the U.K in place of GCSE.

Meanwhile, it is important to inform you that it is not all the universities and colleges in UK that accept WAEC.

WAEC is mostly accepted in colleges and universities in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, etc. Some colleges and universities may choose to use an alternative qualification.

For your WAEC to be accepted in any UK university or college, it must have good grades (A’s or B’s) that are equivalent to the UK GCSE required grades.

The University of Kent accepts international students with WAEC or NECO who wish to apply for undergraduate degree programs at the University.

Meanwhile, all WAEC submitted must be validated by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) likewise any NECO result by the Nigerian Examinations Council.
